School nights and weekends should vary no more than 1 hour.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Bedtime schedule<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Try to have a 20- to 30-minute bedtime routine\u00a0every night.\u00a0Include calm activities, like reading a book or talking about the day. The routine should \u00a0start in say the playroom without distractions and finish in your child&#8217;s bedroom, preferably in bed.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Bedroom<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Apart from having a <a href=\"http:\/\/bedguard.com.au\/shop\/\">BedGuard mattress <\/a>your child\u2019s bedroom should be\u00a0quiet, and dark. A nightlight is fine, but can cause interruption as children become use to\u00a0a completely dark room.\u00a0Children\u00a0sleep best in a room that is cool (less than 21\u00b0C). Your child&#8217;s\u00a0bedroom is for sleep. Time out or other punishment\u00a0should be reduced so\u00a0your child to thinks of the bedroom as a good place, not a bad one.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Treats<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>Avoid heavy meals within an hour or two of bedtime as this may interfere with sleep. Your child should not go to bed hungry,\u00a0so\u00a0a light snack\u00a0of milk\u00a0or a\u00a0small non-sugary treat before bed is a good idea.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Caffeine<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Consumption of caffeine type soft drink, coffee, iced tea, and chocolate\u00a0should avoided for at least 3 to 4 hours before bedtime routine.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Pre-bed activities<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The hour before bed should be a quiet time. Your child should not get involved in high-energy activities, such as rough play or playing outside, or stimulating activities, such as computer games.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Television<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>No television in your child\u2019s bedroom. Children can easily develop the bad habit of \u201cneeding\u201d the television to fall asleep.
