Although, experiencing nocturia can be rather horrible. Nocturia simply means the need for frequent urination at night and can lead to bed wetting or <a href=\"http:\/\/bedguard.com.au\/blog\/tips-dealing-incontinence\/\">incontinence<\/a>. This is a common problem for both men and women and especially for those over 50. Fortunately, such infections are easily spotted because they are normally accompanied by a burning sensation or painful urination along with the frequent urge to urinate throughout both day and night. Nocturia can also be a side effect of certain medications that act as diuretics. Alcohol and caffeine are also diuretics. Also keep in mind that too much water or other liquid just before bed can fill the bladder and cause frequent urination. The body needs time to absorb liquids, so sip frequently rather than drink a lot all at once.<\/p>\n<h2>Ways to cope with nocturia<\/h2>\n<p>There are a number of things you can do to cope with this problem. Consult your doctor and make sure that your nocturia is not a symptom of something worse. A conversation with your doctor will include such things as any family history of bladder problems, or family history of diabetes, as well as any medications you are taking. Be sure to tell your doctor if anything you do tends to make the problem worse, how many times a night you urinate and whether or not you didn&#8217;t make it to the bathroom and wet the bed.<\/p>\n<p>If you visit the bathroom several times a night but have control over your bladder then you may be experiencing an overproduction of urine. Waking up several times in the night can be exhausting and over a few days it&#8217;s possible to sleep through the body\u2019s signals and wet the bed. If nocturia is chronic or happens often, a waterproof mattress might be a good idea should any accidents happen.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/bedguard.com.au\/product-category\/bedguard-mattresses\/\">Waterproof mattresses<\/a> are easy to clean while other mattresses become soiled and impossible to clean.
